Please Help Us!

July 3rd, 2010

Biscuit Acres needs your help and support to keep this great “doggie” fun place maintained and open. BAVA funds are paying for Biscuit Acres grass and park improvements.

Our current needs are:

On-going Park maintenance equipment:  metal scoops, buckets, sack replacements for orange barrels and green dispensers, stainless steel water buckets, sign replacement, fence tubes, shade sails, shade structures, benches, tables, etc.

Major maintenance:  Grass replacement and volunteer watering.  Also, we need a sidewalk from the Restrooms to the South Entrance.  The City does not have funds to cover the total cost of these items.

Please consider becoming a volunteer or member of BAVA to help us. Download our volunteer/membership form and become an active supporter now.

Thank You!

How much money is needed to sod what is left instead of planting seed?

  • Nita McPartland says:

    Josh,
Any donation will be greatly appreciated. We have two different donations of sod coming to Biscuit Acres this Saturday, July 31st at 6:30 am. We need as many volunteers as possible to help plant it.

When is the park going to be open again?

  • Nita McPartland says:

    Melissa,
We just planted some sod this week and we still have issues with the drainage problem. Unfortunately we are unsure of an opening date at this time.

Once again, since I’m still assuming that the continuing closure is due to finances, how much money is needed to finish whatever remains? Giving an actual number helps to give a reference point for deciding on donation amounts.

  • Nita McPartland says:

    Josh,
The continued closing is not due to lack of money. The grass has to be totally restored and the City finish its drainage improvement projects before we reopen. The City just completed the large dog water station drain repair, the BA grass has been “plugged” by a donation from Easton Sod Farm and the large drain surface culvert in the small dog park will not be completed by the City until the end of summer if not earlier. The grass has about 60 more days of growing season so it may not be ready for traffic the rest of the year. We can’t afford to risk having visitor traffic set the grass back to a condition that during the winter we experience winter grass kill again. We raised and spent $23,000 on a new sprinkling system for the grass and to justify this investment we need total grass coverage at Biscuit Acres. Total grass coverage means a more enjoyable and useable park for all visitors. We are working closely with the City’s grass management department to do the right thing for long term park use.
